About the project
The “Eco-Innovations of Rybnik’s Youth” project was a grassroots initiative by young people, delivered as a Solidarity Project under the European Solidarity Corps. We focused on combining environmental education, the development of digital and entrepreneurial skills, and civic action into one coherent process. The project responded to real local challenges: the need for a green transition, strengthening youth agency, and creating space for young people’s development in Rybnik.
Process
We worked in stages, from knowledge to action. First, we delivered a series of workshops, “Green Innovations for Rybnik,” where participants developed knowledge about sustainable development, local environmental challenges, and modern eco-friendly solutions. At the same time, we built digital skills: working with online tools, task planning, preparing materials, and presenting ideas.
The next step was the “My Green Start-up” component, in which young people worked on their own concepts for solutions for the city. The process included needs analysis, refining assumptions, and preparing pitches. An important part of the project also involved open activities: an interactive website, social media communication, debates, and a Solidarity Week engaging residents, volunteers, and local partners. The finale was the Young Innovators Festival, featuring presentations of the best projects and a discussion about their further development.

Impact
What changed thanks to the project
The project delivered a clear developmental impact for both participants and the local community. Young people strengthened their environmental, digital, civic, and entrepreneurial competences, and the experience gained was formally confirmed with Youthpass certificates. We also created lasting outputs: a package of refined eco-innovation ideas, a functioning website, and materials that can be used after the initiative ends.
Another important result was increased dialogue between young people and the local environment. Thanks to open events, the project went beyond the core participant group and showed that young people can be real partners of change in the city. Some of the developed ideas received support for further development, and one project (EkoMetka) is being continued after the activities ended.
